"Building a Church Worthy of His Name"
"Building a Church Worthy of His Name"
The Bible states that on the sixth day of creation, God made man in His image and for His glory (Gen. 1:26). Man was given dominion over the earth and was to live under the sovereign rule of God. He was to serve God in holiness and righteousness (Luke 1:74-75). By an act of disobedience man sinned and perverted God’s image. He rejected God’s authority and began to live according to his own selfish purpose and passion.
Like our first parents, we all have sinned and failed to put God first in our life (Rom. 3:23). We have violated the first and greatest commandment (to love God supremely) by not making Him the center of our lives (Mat. 22:36-38). We like sheep have left following the Shepherd to go our own way (Isaiah. 53:6).
Having failed to put God first, we have become enslaved to sin and subject to judgment (Rom. 6:16; Heb. 9:27). We have lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. Being foolish, disobedient and deceived, we need the kindness and love that comes through Jesus Christ our Savior (Tit. 3:3-7).
God sent His Son, Jesus, as the Good Shepherd to give His life for the sheep (Mat. 18:11-14; John 10:11). As our example, He lived a God-centered life. And as our substitute, He died for our sins and arose from the dead so that we may live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world (Tit. 2:10-13).
To be saved from sin and return to fulfilling your God-ordained purpose, you must repent of your sins and by faith submit to Christ as Lord of all (Rom. 10:9, 10). Christ will cleanse you from sin, free you from its effect and fill you with His Spirit. These provisions will enable you to live a life acceptable to God.
