Humble beginnings, this is a painting of the barn where it all started.
When we started WPC of Washington almost 27 years ago, we didn’t know all that God had in store for us. We only knew that we wanted to honor Him, maintain the standard of holiness (especially among Pentecostals) and preach the truth of God’s Word in a culture that was chipping away at the moral moorings of society.
We began in September 1993, with a handful of people meeting in the upper room of an old pack house or barn as some called it. For the first few months there were chickens and cows on the ground floor that competed with the preacher. We were there for five years and experienced great services and growth. In August 1998, God graciously gave us the facilities we have currently. We have remodeled several times and grown from a handful to an average of sixty people. We are reaching our capacity and events more than max out our facilities. Presently we must hold one of our Sunday School classes in our storage building.
We have been talking about building new facilities for quite some time now, but only recently did the Lord clear the way for us to do so. We intended to build a new sanctuary on our existing property but discovered that we simply did not have adequate space to do what we wanted to do. The Lord opened a door for us last year to purchase nine acres of land within four miles or so of our existing property. This land is closer to the town of Washington and in a perfect location. We have space to do all we planned and more.
We are planning to build a 12,000 square foot building that will house a sanctuary, fellowship hall, classrooms, offices and more. The new sanctuary will seat around 250 people. This building will triple the size of our existing facility and give us room to grow. We are planning sites for RV’s for those who attend camp meetings and other functions. We are also planning to have our own cemetery.
There is much work for us to do in the days ahead and we are praying that God will allow us to get in our new building by the end of 2020. God does great things if we ask and we desire nothing but His will. He has provided all, and we have nothing but praise for His Holy Name!
