Building a Church Worthy of His Name

When we started WPC of Washington in September 1993, we didn’t know all that God had in store for us. We simply knew that we wanted to honor Him, maintain the standard of holiness (especially among Pentecostals) and preach the truth of God’s Word in a culture that was chipping away at the moral moorings of American society.

We began with a handful of people meeting in the upper room of an old pack house or barn as some called it. For the first few months there were chickens and cows on the ground floor that competed with the preacher. We were there for five years and experienced great services and growth. In August 1998, God graciously gave us facilities at 7656 Highway 264 East.  We remodeled several times and grew from a handful to an average of sixty people. We reached our capacity and any special event more than maxed out our facilities.

In 2019, we began the planning stage for new facilities at the 264 location but soon discovered that we did not have adequate space. We prayed and decided to look for a new piece of property and build entirely new facilities. Within a few weeks of this decision the Lord opened a door for us to purchase nine acres of land within four miles of the 264 location. The land was closer to the town of Washington and in a perfect location, giving us space to do all we planned and more.

We purchased the land at the corner of Page and Leggett Roads in Washington in November 2019. In the following year we began the permit and planning stage. This took much longer than anticipated, but God is always faithful to work things for our good. In addition during this period, COVID hit and increased our building prices and made life in general more complicated. We finally started pouring the slab for our new building in January 2023. It took over two and a half years to complete the facility to the point we could obtain our certificate of occupancy. At times it was extremely stressful and frustrating with numerous delays and changes in plans. However, our church worked diligently and prayed. The Lord always worked things out.

On September 7, 2025 we conducted our first service in our 12,000 square foot building that houses a sanctuary, fellowship hall, classrooms, offices and more. There are yet things we need to complete on the building but we are fully functional and happy in Jesus. There are plans for an outside shelter and RV sites for those who attend camp meetings and other functions.

All glory for anything good that has been accomplished at WPC of Washington is due to our loving Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. May we continuously endeavor to "build a church worthy of His name."
